ADFIAP IDF conducts executive leadership program

exeucutive-leadership-photoADFIAP’s Asia-Pacific Institute of Development Finance (IDF) conducted a 2-week “Executive Leadership Program” on November 7-18, 2016 at the St. Giles Hotel in Makati City, Philippines. The program was attended by six (6) officers from the Land Bank of the Philippines, Pag-IBIG Fund, and Philippine National Bank who earned the title “Certified Development Bank Executive” (CDBE).

This training program is under the ADFIAP’s Career Credentialing Program (ACCP) whose aim is to enhance the managerial and technical capabilities of management level personnel of development banks and other DFIs with focus on development banking. In particular, it is designed to equip participants with better understanding of corporate banking management and corporate finance, marketing management, good governance, and people management.

The program covered two (2) modules, namely: (1) General Management and Management of People and (2) Bank Operation Management and Financial Management. Subjects discussed under Module 1 included: People Capital Management; Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Co-Ordinating, Reporting and Budgeting (POSDCORB); the 6 Sigma in financial industry: a deeper insight to managerial functions; Systematic Productivity Improvement; Social Responsibilities of DFIs which include relationship between the government and development banks and other DFIs. The subjects discussed under Module 2 included: roles of DFIs in economic landscape of the country; the changing roles of development banks and other DFIs in different levels of economic development; should commercial banks, development banks, and other DFIs be treated differently be regulation? Social role of development banks and other DFIs and how they stay afloat; concepts of social overhead capital and direct productive activities; DFIs in the long-term; trend, outlook, challenges, and changes in development banking.

The resource persons of the program were Dr. Alberto Pena, Associate Director of the International Studies and Programs at the Illinois State University (ISU), and Mr. Orlando P. Pena, former ADFIAP Sec. Gen. and President of ABC Consultants.
