Upon invitation by the OECD Development Centre, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Capacity Building International, Germany (InWEnt), ADFIAP Secretary General, Mr. Octavio B. Peralta, participated in the informal experts’ workshop on Performance and Coherence in Multilateral Development Finance in Berlin on January 29-30, 2007.

The workshop is part of the OECD Global Forum on Development, a new dialogue process bringing together OECD Members with non-member governments and nongovernmental actors. The aim of the forum is to explore options for reform in areas where broad cooperation is required between these stakeholders. Its first three-year cycle is devoted to the “development finance architecture”, and four priority areas have been chosen, i.e., (a) understanding the present development finance system (b) operationalizing ownership (c) matching instruments to needs and (d) changing the international development finance architecture.

Close to a hundred participants worldwide, including those from the Asian Development Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, the U.N., aid agencies, ministries, and international NGOs, attended the workshop, which was formally opened by the Parliamentary State Secretary, BMZ, Ms. Karin Kortmann and OECD’s Development Centre Director, Ms. Louka T. Katseli.

The results from the Berlin workshop will be presented at the First Annual Plenary Meeting of the Global Forum, to be held in Paris on April 3, 2007. A calendar of global forum events is available at http://www.oecd.org/dev/meetings/define.
