ADFIAP supports JERI’s CRD project

ADFIAP is supporting the Japan Economic Research Institute’s (JERI) study for the introduction of credit risk database (CRD) in the Philippines, a project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Philippine government’s Department of Finance (DoF) that aims to prepare a roadmap and a pre-feasibility study for introducing CRD in the country.

This study will assist the Philippine government in further developing the private sector in the country by facilitating access to finance especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). From the Japanese experience, the introduction of CRD provides a circumstance for banks, financial institutions and guarantee corporations to extend more risk-based transactions with less dependence on collaterals.

As a first step, JERI conducted a scoping mission study on the Philippine financial sector and SME lending institutions and interviewed several universal and commercial banks, including Manila-based ADFIAP members such as the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Landbank of the Philippines (Land Bank), and the Small Business Guarantee and Finance Corporation (SBGFC).
