ADFIAP, represented by the ADFIAP Consulting Group’s Ms. Corazon Conde and Ms. Cecilia Ibarra, Group Head and Training and Advocacy Head, respectively, attended the closing ceremony of the 4-year EU-funded SMART Myanmar 2 project held on December 6, 2019 at the Sedona Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar. The project was successfully completed, with ADFIAP as its implementing partner in facilitating access to (green) finance for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Those present during the closing ceremony were Mr. U Myo Aung, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Immigration and Population who gave the welcome remarks and Mr. Pedro Campo-Llopis, Deputy Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Myanmar for the opening remarks. SMART Myanmar 2’s achievements, which mentioned, among others, the importance of access to green finance, was presented by Mr. U Mynt Soe, the Chairman of Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA).
The program also included a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Jacob Clere, SMART Myanmar 2 Team Leader, on the closing thoughts and synopsis of activities from the project partners – ADFIAP represented by Ms. Cora Conde and Ms. Andrea Breyer, Head of Trade and Policy Sustainability of AVE-International.
The highlight of the program was the ceremonial signing of the “Commitment of Support” by key stakeholders and project partners of the SMART Myanmar projects. The program also gave recognition to outstanding factory managers including those who were coached by ADFIAP on how to access loans from banks and grants from the Responsible Business Fund (RBF) facilities.
The closing ceremony was simultaneously held with the launch of the SMART Textile and Garment (SMART TaG), the 3rd phase of the SMART Myanmar project. Dr. Christiane Beck, Director of Sequa on the new SMART TaG, presented the features of the new project. Dr. Zaw Oo, Executive Director of the Centre for Economic and Social Development, on the other hand, gave the remarks on the activities of the said project. Closing remarks was given by the Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Union, Mr. U Maung Maung, the new partner in the SMART TaG project.
