ADFIAP and partners, the European Organization for Sustainable Development (EOSD), Germany and the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) held their first-ever virtual high-level forum on “DFI 4.0 / Financing 4.0” on May 6 and 7, 2020. About 100 participants, mostly CEOs and C-suite officers from different countries, attended the event.

The two-day, 4 hours-each day programme covered, among others, topics on mobilization and deployment of capital for financing national development, which today includes playing a strong countercyclical role to revive the economy; and on making sustainability an integral part of the DNA of DFIs to successfully de-risk businesses for creating socially and environmentally sustainable economic opportunities that are now more urgently needed than prior to the coronavirus crisis.

It was also an occasion to showcase the progressive actions of two DFIs that are undergoing the Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative (SSCI) process – the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) and the Alliance Finance Company (AFC) Plc. (Sri Lanka).

After the e-forum, the SSCI International Council held its 5th meeting, this time virtually. The Council is composed of representatives from EOSD, ADFIAP, AADFI, UDB, AFC, ASKI Group of Companies (Philippines), Access Bank (Nigeria) and the city council of Karlsruhe. SSCI provides an all-encompassing framework for holistic integration of sustainability to drive innovation in the organizational culture and ensures that the work and strategies of certified institutions are congruent with the global sustainable development goals (SDGs) and national development agendas.

SSCI is currently available only to few selected network members who have demonstrated their capacity in adapting new standards and top management commitment to sustainability. The acceptance to SSCI is subject to approval. For more information on SSCI, please click this link http://www.eosd.org/en/ssci.html and for interest, please email inquiries@adfiap.org
