Upon the hosted invitation of Tourism New Zealand (TNZ), the country’s tourism marketing body, the ADFIAP Secretariat represented by its Secretary General, participated in a 5-day “Association Familiarisation Programme” from May 25-30, 2019 that showcased two of New Zealand’s largest conference cities – Christchurch, the gateway to the south island, and Auckland, the vibrant harbour city. The programme also included participation in a workshop for association executives and attendance to “Meetings 2019”, New Zealand’s largest business events industry tradeshow.
The programme was attended by a select group of 8 participants from Australia, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines and provided experience, learning and business opportunities through meetings with city representatives, visits to conference venues, accommodation facilities, and touristic sights. It was designed specifically for associations working in the growing Asia-Pacific region.
For ADFIAP, the educational and networking programme has opened opportunities for collaboration with tourism entities and engaging with potential members and partners in New Zealand to expand its reach and options to provide more services to its members. Currently, ADFIAP has no members/s in New Zealand after its member decades ago, the New Zealand Development Corporation, has ceased operations.
