ADFIAP was invited to speak at the APEC “Workshop on Aligning Conformity Assessment Efforts for Energy Efficiency Regulations of Motors in the APEC and ASEAN Regions” in Taipei, Taiwan on October 28-29, 2019, organized by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in collaboration with the International Copper Association (ICS) and with funding support from APEC. Twenty eight (28) officials from governments, standard and utility agencies, motor industry sector in APEC economies, ASEAN member-states, and international organizations participated in the event.
Ms. Corazon Conde, Group Head, ADFIAP Consulting, represented ADFIAP and made a presentation on “Developing Credit Lines for Motor Programs: Experience in the Philippines,” building on ADFIAP’s experience in the EU-funded SWITCH Asia Project, “Switch to High Efficiency Motors” (HEMS).
The objective of the workshop was to build knowledge and capacity of energy efficiency practitioners by improving their understanding of model international practices and tools; elaborate a strategy to facilitate standards harmonization and accelerated market transformation of energy efficient electric motors; and promote future cooperation between public and private stakeholders of APEC and other regions.
The highlight of the workshop was the presentation of the “Roadmap for Harmonization Report” by the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) which provides recommendation on a roadmap for harmonization of energy efficiency programs for electric motors within APEC and ASEAN economies. The recommendations were prepared based on analysis of the current situation of energy efficiency programs for electric motors implemented in twenty four APEC/ASEAN member-economies, as well as lessons learned from other regional and international initiatives promoting energy efficient motors.
