Aiming to help families out of poverty, the ASKI Group of Companies, Inc. has designed a program that provides work opportunities to groups of unemployed men in Cabanatuan City, Northern Philippines.

The “Men-at-Work” program was developed for the unemployed men and those earning on a seasonal basis via the provision of technical-vocational courses with accreditation from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The partnership with TESDA has allowed the participants to obtain a national certification which they can use when applying for a job as well as to widen their opportunity to work abroad and earn good income.

The program created a huge impact on the families of the beneficiaries because they were able to overcome all their insecurities and apprehensions. Before the program, these individuals have no self-confidence and oftentimes perceived as “unproductive” due to lack of formal education and unable to bring income for their families on a regular basis. Some of the beneficiaries are out-of-school youth.

To date, the beneficiaries are enjoying their jobs and small businesses they put up and are now providing regular income for their families.

ASKI’s “Men-At-Work Program: Empowering Urban Men through Technical Skills Training and Development” won the 2019 ADFIAP Outstanding Development Project Awards under the human capital development category.
