ADFIAP attends two EU, BMUB-sponsored project-partners’ meetings in Manila

BMUB IKI Networking Workshop 3ADFIAP participated in two workshops and networking meetings sponsored by the European Union (EU) and the Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) held at the Dusit Thani and Marco Polo Hotels in Manila on June 14 and June 15-16, 2016, respectively. The two (2) meetings, attended by more than a hundred participants from national, regional and international project partners, was aimed at gathering all implementing and political partners of EU and BMUB to establish a knowledge exchange platform for sharing current project information, best practices, experiences, lessons learned and knowledge products generated by their supported projects in the country/region.

The European Union (EU) programme of cooperation supports the Philippines development strategy. More than 100 projects are currently being carried out across a range of sectors, regions and cities of the country. EU assistance focuses in particular on support for health, trade and investment, good governance, environment/climate change, human rights, attention to indigenous peoples, and conflict prevention and peace. EU funding for projects in the Philippines is provided in the form of grants contracts and increasingly budget support. EU is the Philippines’ largest grant development partner with a total of EUR 331 million (PHP 19 Billion) grant aid in 2013.

Under the Trade and Regional Integration Programme, ADFIAP is implementing the 4-year capacity building project called “Increasing the Uptake of High Efficiency Motors (HEMS) and Drive Systems in Philippine Industries” in collaboration with the Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEES), the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), Association Action for Sustainable Development and the International Copper Association of South East Asia.

With funding support from the BMUB, the Renewables Academy (AG) Berlin (RENAC) in collaboration with ADFIAP, as project partner, is implementing the “Green Banking Project”, a 3 year multi-country project which involves the countries of India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines. Among others, the program aims to enable the financial institutions to develop financing instruments for RE/EE projects in the 5 target countries and thus make available to the local financial institutions access to international climate finance. Lastly, it aims to establish a professional training for financing specialists in RE/EE projects.

These events also became a platform for other members of civil society organizations become aware of the organizational existence of ADFIAP and its various programs and services as well as identify and explore areas of collaboration, synergies and complementarities with those present during the networking workshops and meetings.

ADFIAP was represented by Mr. Victor C. Abainza, Senior Consultant for Training and Advisory Services, in both meetings.
