ASKI goes paperless

Embracing the wonders of technology has proven to be beneficial to many organizations, including the Alalay sa Kaunlaran Inc. (ASKI), which developed a mobile-based platform for paperless transaction in its loan processes and procedures. Doing away with paper-based data collection and consolidation, ASKI is enhancing its homegrown MIS by integrating Android tablets to facilitate field data collection.
The program was designed to replace existing paper documents with digital versions and making the overall process more efficient and cost-effective. Data will be collected using the devices during the day’s operation and will be directly fed to ASKI’s MIS for processing.

With this program, clients no longer need to have their requirements printed since those were taken electronically. Additionally, clients no longer need to travel to the branch to submit their application forms since it is being done electronically and real-time.
ASKI hopes to replicate the program to other institutions in the country in the next years after documenting what works best and what didn’t work in the program.

This innovative program is the first of its kind in the microfinance operation using tablets in getting client profile, photo and signature. The process automated most of the repetitive support tasks such as encoding and data matching. The integration promotes better data efficiency, quicker processes and attributed savings on costs for both ASKI and the client.

ASKI’s “Shifting to Paperless Transaction: A New Landscape in the Microfinance Operation” won the 2017 ADFIAP Outstanding Development Project, Merit Award, under the Technology Development Category.
