ADFIAP conducts workshop on climate finance and its impact

ADFIAP conducts the webinar/workshop on “Climate Finance: Best Practices from Funding to Impact” on September 5-8, 2022 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Philippine time. This is the fourth and final series of the four virtual workshops under the ADFIAP Sustainable Finance Project in collaboration with the Agence Francaise Developpement (AFD).

The program aims to raise awareness among FIs climate finance developments and provide practical approach to developing a climate change financing product. The workshop included sessions on how to support FIs in climate financing, product innovations and FI partnerships with international development and multilateral agencies, capital market climate financing initiatives, and impact reporting mechanisms. Case studies on projects in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines presented best practices in transition finance, allowing participants to learn about the challenges and success factors for transition project implementation.

Expert who spoke on different related topics include Aileen Ruiz, Senior Investment Officer of the Financial Institutions Group of the International Finance Corporation, Rustico Noli Cruz, Vice President of the Program Development and Management Dept. of the Development Bank of the Philippines, Fakhrul Aufa, Team Leader of Strategic Partnership Group of PTSMI, Thi Thanh An Nguyen, Head of Climate and Energy Team of AFD, Sophie Chappellet, Deputy Director Jakarta Agency of AFD and Zalina Shmasudin, Head International Programmes Asia Pacific of Climate Bonds Initiative. Mr. Enrique Florencio, Secretary General of ADFIAP, also gave a presentation on Global Approaches to Impact Reporting Mechanisms and Sustainability Reporting.

Twenty-nine (29) participants from ADFIAP-member institutions in China, Cook Islands, Fiji, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vietnam participated in the program. The program was rated highly by the participants.

AFD was represented by Mr. Jean-Pierre MARCELLI, Executive Director of Operations, and gave the closing remarks. He commended the collaborative partnership with ADFIAP in putting this project together and emphasized the role of DFIs in green transition and supporting financial flows to meet the SDGs.
