On invitation by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, ADFIAP participated in the “Roundtable Dialogue on Climate Finance” convened jointly by the Climate Change Commission of the Philippines and the UNFCCC Secretariat on June 4, 2019 at the Discovery Suites in Pasig City, Metro Manila.
The event was in response to the decision by the Conference of Parties at its twenty-third session (COP 23) in Fiji wherein the UNFCCC Secretariat was requested to assist developing countries in assessing their needs and priorities in a country-driven manner, and in translating finance needs into action (Decision 6/CP.23, paragraph 10). Serving primarily as an open dialogue, the roundtable was expected to serve as a catalyst for the development of climate finance systems and in crafting a roadmap for the mobilization and delivery of climate finance to support priority climate actions in the Philippines.
The dialogue brought together about 60 senior public and private sector representatives involved in the mobilization and delivery of climate financing from the finance agencies of the government, banking sector, private sector associations, multilateral and bilateral agencies.
Mr. Noel N. Verdote, Head of ADFIAP Finance and Investment Center (AFIC), together with Mr. Victor C. Abainza, Senior Consultant at ADFIAP Consulting and Ms. Nanette A. Biazon, AFIC Business Development Lead, attended the roundtable. Mr. Verdote also participated as a panel-discussant during the session on “Bridging the Demand for and Supply of Climate Finance.”
