ADFIAP speaks at the 3rd Government-Private Forum  on the Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN (CEFIA)

ADFIAP, represented by its  Secretary-General Enrique Florencio participated in a virtual conference of the 3rd Government-Private Forum on Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN (CEFIA) on 21 February 2022.   Mr. Florencio moderated Session 3 of the conference agenda on the topic “Mobilization of Finance for Decarbonization Pathways.”  Panelists for this session were from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of Japan, Asian Development Bank, Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited (Krungsri), and Thai Union Group Public Company Limited.

The session presented best practices and lessons learned in mobilizing transition finance from the viewpoints of a multilateral development bank, financial institution, and business enterprise.  The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of the Government of Japan also presented the transition finance programs and initiatives of Japan and the roadmap to decarbonizing major industry sectors in this session.

The 3rd CEFIA Forum was hosted by the Energy Commission of the Government of Malaysia, in cooperation with METI, with support from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI). This is an annual event attended by the ASEAN+3 government officials, international organizations, and private companies to share information on current developments and ongoing activities on the clean energy front. The forum presented the Collaboration Roadmap in ASEAN which CEFIA is leading, the progress of flagship projects, and the financing solutions and best practices for transitioning to a low carbon economy. 

CEFIA is an initiative proposed by Japan and welcomed by ASEAN +3 Ministers of Energy at the 16th ASEAN+3 Meeting of Energy Ministers in Bangkok, Thailand in September 2019.  It is a platform to facilitate collaboration and accelerate the deployment of cleaner energy and low carbon technologies in the ASEAN region.
