ADFIAP Board elects Fonseka, Çelik as Chairman, Vice Chairman

Mr. Nihal Fonseka, General Manager and CEO of DFCC Bank, and Mr. Abdullah Çelik, Chairman and CEO of the Development Bank of Turkey, were elected Chairman, Vice Chairman by the ADFIAP Board of Directors in its last meeting on May 10, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada in conjunction with the 33rd ADFIAP Annual Meetings held in the Canadian city.

Mr. Fonseka, a career banker joined DFCC Bank in January 2000 as Chief Executive/Director after his stint with HSBC for 22 years.

He is Chairman of the Colombo Stock Exchange and concurrently elected as Chairman of ADFIAP. Mr. Fonseka was ADFIAP’s CEO of the Year for 2006.

Mr. Celik’s broad experience in the field of banking and finance was gained from his long engagement (2000-2005) with Turkey’s Treasury and Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BSRA). In addition, he has been a Sworn Bank Auditor of the Undersecretariat of Treasury of the Turkish Government for eight years, from 1992-2000. From 2005 to date, Mr. Celik is a Member of the Board of the Association of National Development Finance Institutions in Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank (ADFIMI), ADFIAP’s counterpart in the Middle East.

Mr. Celik, who has been serving the ADFIAP Board since May 2006, is one of the most senior Directors of the Association. He was recently named ADFIAP’s Outstanding CEO-of-the-Year for 2010 (please see related story).
