ADFIAP conducts risk-based credit assessment workshop for AYA Bank

As part of the EU-funded SMART Myanmar 2.0 project https://www.smartmyanmar.org where ADFIAP is a partner, the ADFIAP Consulting (AC) Group conducted a two-day seminar-workshop on “Risk-based Credit Assessment Tools” for 20 credit officers of Myanmar’s Ayeyarwady Bank (AYA Bank).

The event, held on June 4-5, 2019 at the AYA Bank Training Center in Yangon, covered the risk management process, credit risk management, promoting ESRM in financial institutions, investment decision-making through credit risk assessment, capped by a case exercise applying all the learnings with focus on green credit scoring.

AC also joined the SMART Myanmar Project Management Office and AYA Bank in a site visit to a garment factory, a beneficiary of a grant from DANIDA’s Responsible Business Fund(RBF) for its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) project. The grant funding covered the installation of a cooling system and a garment lift in the factory to improve the working conditions of employees, which according to the owner, increased the productivity of the workers. AYA Bank is considering complementing the RBF grant with a green loan for the company’s expansion project.

Another back to back activity attended by AC was the matchmaking forum between AYA Bank and the members of the Myanmar Garments Manufacturers Association (MGMA) held at the MGMA Training Center where AYA Bank presented among others, its green lending credit facility to the MGMA members. In the same forum, SMART Myanmar’s green finance advocacy and initiatives as well as AC’s capability on coaching and advisory services were presented by is Team Leader, Jacob Clere.

AYA Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SMART Myanmar’s project lead organization, sequa of Germany, on January 30, 2019 which included the provision of training and advisory services by ADFIAP in line with the Bank’s vision of being a “responsible bank”, i.e., to help the environment, the economy and the people of Myanmar.

The AC team mission consisted of Ms. Cora Conde, Group Head, Atty. Alberto Reyno, Managing Principal, and Ms. Emy Chavez, Head of Product Development and Research.
