ADFIAP, the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for a green financing and advocacy initiative that will benefit small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and local government units (LGUs) in the country. The signing, witnessed by senior officials of the three institutions, was done at the DBP headquarters on April 12, 2012 with ECCP President Mr. Hubert D’Aboville, DBP President & CEO, Mr. Francisco F. Del Rosario Jr. and ADFIAP Secretary General Octavio B. Peralta, representing their respective institutions.
The synergistic partnership aims to support investments in environmentally-friendly processes and systems such as cleaner production, waste minimization, resource conservation, energy efficiency, pollution prevention and control, among others, with the goal of reducing environmental footprint from LGU projects and SME operations consistent with the principle of sustainable consumption and production (SCP), the green growth strategy, the Millennium Development Goals’ environmental sustainability, and the Philippine Development Plan’s goal of improving environmental quality for a cleaner and healthier environment.
Under the MOA, DBP https://www.dbp.ph/, among others, will assist SMEs and the LGUs in the development and implementation of their green projects through its environmental credit facilities under its green financing program. ECCP https://www.eccp.com/, for their part and among others, will serve as the main contact of its member-companies and its other stakeholders that are interested to avail of a loan under DBP’s green financing program. ADFIAP’s main role is to conduct and advocate through its network of members and supporting organizations, green finance awareness briefings, SME access to finance forums as well as linkage building and capacity-building programs on SCP and green investments.
