ADFIAP participated as a fully-hosted buyer and joined association education programs and networking activities at the IBTM World Expo held from November 28 to December 1, 2023, at the Fira Gran Via, Montjuic 2 Exhibition Centre in Barcelona, Spain.
ADFIAP Secretary General Enrique Florencio, hosted by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and ADFIAP Consulting (AC) Head, Ms. Corazon D. Conde, hosted by IBTM World, represented ADFIAP in the event where they attended full-tailored programs for associations at the Association Leaders Forum where high-level debates and presentations around the theme of environmental impact of events and how technology and AI can help were discussed, among others.
The event covered three days of focused access to professional education programs for associations, knowledge sessions as well and business networks for hosted participants, MICE suppliers, destinations,
technologies, planners, and decision-makers. It attracted 2,250 exhibitors, 4,000 buyers, 132,000 connections, and industry professionals to effectively gain a competitive advantage for their businesses and keep abreast with the latest developments in the meetings industry, particularly on technology.
The educational program analyzed how embracing diversity and inclusion, sustainability, cultivating community, and championing the power of innovation can steer associations and the events industry into a bright and prosperous future. This year saw the show’s education program directed towards the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs, specifically the work that associations, destinations, hotels, and technology suppliers are doing in the sustainability space.
As part of IBTM’s Association Education Programme, industry leaders shared their experiences with association professionals who attended the sessions for inspiration and insights. Exhibitors displayed the latest technology to help associations deliver exceptional experiences. Networking activities were also held every day to expand business connections among the attendees.
Mr. Florencio and Ms. Conde held separate meetings with a total of 54 exhibitors and service providers, a good number of which offered financial subsidies and other support services for conventions and congresses held in certain destinations. This development provides an alternative option for ADFIAP in its annual meetings and other events.
