ADFIAP participates in 3rd practitioners’ dialogue on climate investment

pdci-workshop-germanyThe German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH invited and hosted ADFIAP to the Core Group Meeting of the Practitioners’ Dialogue on Climate Investments (PDCI) held on October 22-25, 2016 at the Yachthotel in Prien am Chiemsee, Bavaria, Germany.

At the earlier PDCI workshops held in Pretoria, South Africa on March 13-18, 2016 and the 2nd PDCI workshop held in Bonn, Germany on May 23-25, 2016, international multi-sectoral practitioners and experts came together to officially start the process of developing innovative ideas and create prototypes aiming at initiating a process of change in their respective organization or author policy briefs to inform policymakers about PDCI’s four focal areas, namely: (1) incentivizing climate resilience measures in local industry (2) creating markets for off-and-mini-grid solutions (3) promoting sustainable and green banking regulations and (4) supporting energy efficiency in industrial production. Said meetings facilitated the exchange of ideas on how to design innovative solutions that would scale up financial flows in low-emission development and unlock private sector investments in climate-resilience initiatives.

In this Core Group Meeting, 65 practitioners and experts from 27 countries gathered once more in order to build on the results of the previous PDCI workshops and finalize the prototypes and policy briefs. During the meeting, the participants exchanged ideas about best practices in prototype implementation, discussed final policy briefs, identified opportunities to integrate results of the selected prototypes and policy brief recommendations into the respective countries’ Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation process, planned the next steps of the prototype implementation and dissemination of policy briefs, developed formats to continue further exchange and cooperation of the working groups, participated in open space and training sessions, and evaluated the overall PDCI process and developed recommendations for future processes.

Mr. Victor Abainza, ADFIAP Senior Consultant and Ms. Cora Conde, Head of ADFIAP Consulting Group, presented their policy briefs covering seven (7) prototypes in Working Group 4 on supporting energy efficiency improvements in industrial production. Mr. Abainza’s policy brief is on “Fiscal and other Financial Innovative Green Policy Instruments Promoting and Enhancing Energy Efficiencies among SMEs in Selected Countries” while Ms. Conde’s policy brief covered “Enabling Initiatives towards Mainstreaming and Upscaling the Application of Energy-Efficient Technology in Industries”. Each working group is composed of prototype developers, policy authors and advisors.
