ADFIAP presents green finance initiatives at APRSCP conference

On invitation of the EU-funded SWITCH Asia Programme, ADFIAP, represented by Datuk Wan Azhar Wan Ahmad and Octavio B. Peralta, Board Member and Secretary General, respectively, made presentations on green finance initiatives before the delegates to the 10th Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (APRSCP) held on November 9-11, 2011 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The event, attended by over 300 participants from 28 countries, had the theme, “Sustainable Consumption and Production: Leading to Green Business, from Local Initiative to Global Winner” and was hosted by Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia and Indonesia Solid Waste Association (InSWA), with support from the Indonesia Center for Cleaner Production (ICPC), Ministry of Industry, Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology, and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Datuk Wan Azhar, CEO of Credit Guarantee Corporation (CGC) Malaysia Berhad https://www.iguarantee.com.my/iguarantee/, presented the CGC-managed Green Technology Financing Scheme (GTFS) that was established by the Malaysian government to promote investments in green technology, a sector that is envisaged to be one of the emerging drivers of economic growth for the country. Investment in green technology refers to products, equipment, or systems which satisfy the following criteria: (a) minimises the degradation of the environment (b) has zero or low green house gas (GHG) emission (c) safe for use and promotes healthy and improved environment for all forms of life (d) conserves the use of energy and natural resources or (e) promotes the use of renewable resources. Mr. Peralta, on the other hand, presented ADFIAP’s environmental governance practices and advocacies as well as the green finance programs of the Association’s member-institutions.

The aim of SWITCH Asia Programme https://www.switch-asia.eu/ is to promote sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in Asia by working simultaneously on the ground with projects that target producers and consumers. At the same time, the programme addresses the level of policy-making by supporting formulation and implementation of SCP-related policies while its network facility connects project, policy makers and stakeholders in the world of SCP. APRSCP https://www.aprscp.net/ is a forum of Asia-Pacific countries concerning of the implementation aspects of sustainable consumption and production.
