ADFIAP speaks at green finance conference

On invitation by and support from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), ADFIAP, represented by its Secretary General, Octavio B. Peralta, spoke at the Green Finance Conference 2018 held on June 5-6, 2018 at the Marina Mandarin Hotel in Singapore. Over 200 participants from about 130 organizations, mostly based in Asia and the Pacific, attended the event. Aside from UN ESCAP, the conference was co-organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA), and Asia Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA).

The two-day conference featured keynote speeches and panel discussions on the first day (Growing Green) and a catalyst roundtable format on the second day (Green Investment Catalyst). The objective of the program was to explore how Asian capital markets can be best leveraged to support sustainable and climate-aligned economic growth in the region as well as to highlight the key role the financial services industry must play in the transition to sustainable development, including the mainstreaming of green securities, and how enthusiasm for such financial instruments has grown among investors.

Mr. Peralta presented the role and contribution of its member-DFIs in green finance by presenting case studies of members in financing green projects in their respective countries. It was also an opportunity to network with international multilateral and national financial institutions and explore the development of joint programs and other activities.
