IDF, MNY co-organize Islamic banking seminar for Al-Amanah Bank, DBP

ADFIAP’s Institute of Development Finance (IDF) in cooperation with the Association’s Kuala Lumpur-based member, MNY Consulting, organized a seminar-workshop on Islamic banking and finance for the Al Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines (AAIIBP) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), both ADFIAP members, from July 26 to 29, 2011 at the DBP Headquarters in Manila. 60 participants, mostly directors, senior officers and managers of both banks, including those from the Philippine government regulatory agencies, attended the program.

The seminar was designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills on the principles of Shariah (Islamic Law) and their application in Islamic banking and finance; legal and regulatory framework for Islamic banking and finance; cash management, tax, accounting and balance sheet treatment under Shairah compliance; Shariah perspective on risk management; business development and marketing strategies for Islamic banking and finance.

The seminar resource speakers, all Islamic banking practitioners from Malaysia, included Dato Mohd Noor Yusoff, Founding CEO of MNY Consulting; Prof. Dr. Ashraf Md Hasim, Head of the International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) and Professor at the International Centre of Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF); Ms. Lee How Fen, Director, Lee Consultancy (Singapore); Mr. Ahmad Nazir Che Yen, Senior Vice President, Islamic Treasury of CIMB Investment Bank Bhd. and Head, Money Market at CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd., and Mr. Mohd Nizam Mohamad, Head of Governance & Compliance at AmIslamic Bank Berhad.
