IDF runs loan officership program

LOP_grppicADFIAP’s Institute of Development Finance (IDF) in collaboration with the ADFIAP Consulting (AC) Group conducted the first offering of the Certificate Course on Loan Officership on June 23-27 in Manila, Philippines. The program was attended by 36 participants from ADFIAP members in Bhutan, India, Turkey, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Vanuatu, Palau, and the Philippines.

This program is aimed at levelling up the skills of bank lending officers to make well-informed credit decisions through experiential learning, hands-on exercises and case studies. It provided the participants also with necessary soft skills to enable them to go beyond being merely a lender to their clients and act the role of a concerned and pro-active business partner with the end view of enhancing their bank’s portfolio quality and consequently, its sustainability as a business concern.

The program covered rigorous classroom work-out as well as institutional and socio-cultural visits around Metro Manila. Topics discussed and dissected included: golden rules of loan officership, credit initiation (harmonizing strategic lending directions and credit policies with risk-based lending), credit appraisal and approval (risk-based lending framework), credit administration (account supervision in risk-based lending approach), performance evaluation (pro-active management approach), and green lending: key to managing risks. In addition to the topics discussed, Ms. Agnes Angeles of Planters Development Bank made a special presentation on the skills, qualities & challenges of a (good) loan officer.

Alberto Reyno, Managing Partner, Ms. Arlene Orencia, Head of Projects and Programs; Ms. Cecilia Ibarra, Head of Training & Advocacy Unit; Ms. Cristy Aquino, Head Business Development; Ms. Carmelita Chavez, Consultant; and Mr. Enrique Florencio, ADFIAP’s Sustainability Officer & Head of Knowledge Management Unit.
