The 36-kilometer East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE), an intra-urban highway project funded by a joint- financing partnership between the Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB), the Government of Malaysia, and the Maybank Investment Bank Berhad (MIB), aims to attain a balanced urbanization in Greater Kuala Lumpur and sustain rapid growth required to achieve high income nation.

The EKVE project will form the east segment of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) that has been listed in the Highway Network Development Plan as one of the most important infrastructure projects in Malaysia. It serves as the third orbital system of the several ring roads around the Greater Kuala Lumpur area.

Once completed, EKVE will implement a multi-lane free-flow tolling system (MLFF), the first cashless payment tolling system in Malaysia, where radio-frequency identification tag and microwave transmission are used to detect and deduct toll. MLFF will be expected to reduce traffic congestion at toll plazas by up to 50% as payments will be carried out at high speed.

The “East Klang Valley Expressway” project of the MIDF won the 2017 ADFIAP Outstanding Development Project Award under the Infrastructure Development Category.
