DBP wins award for promoting countryside development

State-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) was honored by a top consultancy company for its role in promoting economic development in the countryside, a top official said.

DBP president and chief executive officer Cecilia C. Borromeo said the bank was one of the recipients of the first-ever Nation Builder Award presented by local engineering firm Quantity Solutions, Inc. and co-presented by the American Chamber of Commerce during ceremonies held last September 20 at the Okada Manila in Parañaque City.

“The award has even greater significance to the DBP because of its mandate to be government’s catalyst for nation-building. This award helps validate our relevance, our impact, the magnitude of the work that we do with our partners in development,” Borromeo said.

Borromeo said DBP was cited for its projects that have boosted investments, generated jobs, and promoted human capital especially in underserved areas of the country.

DBP is the eighth largest bank in the country in terms of assets and has been designated as the country’s infrastructure bank by the National Government. It provides loans to strategic sectors such as infrastructure and logistics, small and medium enterprises, social services and community development, and the environment.

Aside from DBP, other awardees were D.M. Consunji, Inc., Ayala Land, AIDEA, Astoria Hotels, Cargill, Sutherland, Fluor, Quezon Power, and Texas Instruments.
