NABARD Chairman Inaugurates Rural Business Incubation Centre at XLRI

March 28, 2026 — ADFIAP is pleased to spotlight a significant milestone by one of its distinguished member institutions, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), in advancing rural entrepreneurship and innovation across India.

During a recent visit to Jamshedpur, Shri Shaji K.V., Chairman of NABARD, formally inaugurated the NABARD-funded Rural Business Incubation Centre (RBIC) at XLRI – Xavier School of Management, one of India’s premier academic institutions. The establishment of the RBIC marks a strategic investment in nurturing rural enterprise, strengthening value chains, and empowering young innovators who are shaping the future of India’s rural economy.

Key Features of the Initiative

  •            Building Rural Innovation Ecosystems — The RBIC provides a structured incubation environment for startups working in agriculture, allied sectors, and rural off‑farm activities. It aims to accelerate the development of ideas that can generate livelihood opportunities and enhance rural productivity.
  •            A Strategic NABARD–XLRI Partnership — By combining XLRI’s academic rigor with NABARD’s deep developmental mandate, the center bridges the gap between rural ingenuity and market-ready solutions. This collaboration ensures that promising rural enterprises receive both technical guidance and support within the financial ecosystem.
  •            Chairman’s Vision for Rural Transformation — In his remarks, Shri Shaji K.V. underscored the center’s role in transforming rural youth from job seekers into job creators, emphasizing that entrepreneurship is a critical pathway to sustainable and inclusive regional growth.

Why This Matters to the ADFIAP Community

The launch of the RBIC stands as a model for how Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) can evolve from traditional financing roles into active enablers of innovation ecosystems. By investing in incubation and enterprise development, NABARD is strengthening the foundations of smart, resilient, and self-reliant rural economies—a priority shared by many ADFIAP members across the Asia-Pacific region.

ADFIAP’s Message of Congratulations

ADFIAP congratulates NABARD for this visionary initiative and commends its leadership for championing rural innovation. The Rural Business Incubation Centre is poised to generate long-term impact by empowering rural entrepreneurs, strengthening local value chains, and contributing to sustainable national development.

ADFIAP looks forward to the transformative outcomes this center will bring to India’s rural landscape and to the broader development finance community.
