ADFIAP has new Chair, 2 Vice Chairs

ADFIAP Chair Vice ChairThe ADFIAP Board, in its 83rd Meeting in Apia, Samoa on May 4, 2016, has elected Mr. Arjun Fernando, Chief Executive Officer of DFCC Bank Sri Lanka, as new ADFIAP Chairman succeeding Mr. Pema Tshering who ended his term as Managing Director of Bhutan Development Bank. In the same meeting, the Board elected Mr. Shivjee Roy Yadav, General Manager & CEO of the NIDC Development Bank Nepal as Vice Chairman. Mr. Yadav will join earlier elected Mr. Nguyen Chi Trang, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Development Bank (VDB), as ADFIAP’s two Vice Chairs.

Mr. Fernando holds 30 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry in executive and managerial positions. Prior to joining the DFCC Bank in August 2012, he was the Asia-Pacific, Regional Head of Change Delivery (commercial banking, trade and supply chain), HSBC, Hong Kong. Prior to that, he was the Chief Operating of HSBC Sri Lanka from 2005-7 and Chief Technology and Services Officer of HSBC Bangladesh from 2007-10.

Apart from being the CEO of DFCC Bank, he also holds directorship and chairmanship with the following subsidiary companies of the DFCC Bank: DFCC Vardhana Bank PLC; DFCC Consulting (Pvt) Limited; Lanka Industrial Estates Limited; and Synapsis Limited. Mr. Fernando is also the Chairman of Acuity Partners (Pvt) Ltd and Director of Acuity Stockbrokers (Pvt) Ltd. He is also the Chairman of Lanka Ventures Limited and Director of the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka, and Director of Home Finance Co Ltd, Fiji.

Mr. Fernando holds a B.Sc. Engineering degree from the Southern Illinois University, USA and a M.Sc. in Management from Clemson University, South Carolina, USA. He is also an Associate of the Institute of Financial Studies (Chartered Institute of Bankers), UK.

He is a former Sri Lanka National Tennis Champion, with six (6) national singles. He also captained Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup team during the period 1983-1990. He was the first Sri Lankan to obtain an ATP work ranking, with a highest ranking of 220 in 1980. Mr. Fernando was recently honored by the Sri Lankan Tennis Association as one of the best tennis players in Sri Lanka during their centenary celebrations.

Mr. Trang brings with him vast of experiences not only in the banking and finance field but also from the military and other private companies. Mr. Trang served the Vietnam army from 1980 to 1984, and after his stint in the army, he worked with the Import and Export Company of Ha Nam Ninh, Department of Trade and Tourism of Ha Nam province, Department of Capital and State Property Management in Nam Ha district, and Vietnam Auditing Company.

Mr. Trang started his stint with the Development Assistance Fund (precursor of the VDB) in 2000 and served as Deputy Head of the Supervisory Department until 2006. In the same year, he was designated as Director of the Risk Prevention and Management Center cum Director of SMEDF Project. In 2007, he acted as Head of the Planning Department of the VDB and later served as Chief of the Department.

Mr. Trang was appointed as Deputy General Director of the VDB in 2007 and he was in charge of the following departments: Development Policy, International Cooperation, Foreign Capital Management, Finance and Accounting, Guarantee Customer Center, Information Technology Center; Payment Center and Post Investment Subsidy.

Mr. Trang graduated from the Academy of Finance and continued his study of economic law at Hanoi Law University and English at Foreign Language University. He also defended a Phd of Banking-Credit at Academy of Finance.

Mr. Yadav is the current General Manager & CEO of the NIDC Development Bank. He has been a member of the ADFIAP Board since 2009. His career with NIDC is a long one which started in 1989 when he became the Section Officer (Technical) of the Bank’s three (3) Divisions–Project Analysis Division; Section Officer (Technical), Manufacturing and Service Industry Division; Section Officer (Technical), Tourism and Textile Industry Division. After his stint as Section Officer of the said Divisions, he became Acting Branch Chief of the Bank’s Agro Processing and Textile Division in 1995, and appointed as Chief of the same Branch in 2000-2006. For his sterling performance, he was appointed as Deputy Director of the Bank’s Recovery and Rehabilitation Division in 2006 to 2007 that is prior to his appointment as Director of the same Branch. He was appointed as Director (Division Chief) of the Banking Operation & Treasury Division of the Bank in 2008 that is prior to his appointment at the helm of the Bank in 2009.

Apart from being the CEO of NIDC Development Bank, Mr. Yadav is also the present Chairman of the M/S NIDC Capital Market Limited, Board of Director of the M/S United Insurance Company Ltd, and Executive of various industries/enterprises in Nepal.

Mr. Yadav has attended abroad many conferences and seminars in the field of management, project appraisal, development financing and governance.

He was a recipient of the following awards: Best Employee and Letter of Appreciation, Nepal Industrial Development Corporation for the year 1993/94 and 1999/2000 and 2006/2007, respectively; Colombo Plan Fellowship for the study of Bachelors of Engineering at REC, Durgapur, India, 1984.

Mr. Yadav finished his Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mechanical) from the Burdaman University, Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, (W.B.) India in 1988.
