AADFIAP conducted the International Seminar-Workshop on Islamic Banking and Finance in Kuala Lumpur on July 13 to 17. The seminar was co-organized with MNY Consulting Sdn, Bhd and ZI Shariah Advisory Services Sdn Bhd. As explained by Dato Md Noor Yusoff, Chairman of MNY Consulting, the choice of Kuala Lumpur as the venue of the seminar is a further recognition of the important role of Malaysia as the center for Islamic Finance in Asia.
There are 28 participants in the seminar from various financial institutions. These included executives and officers of the Al Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines, Development Bank of the Philippines, AGROBANK, Bank Pembangunan, Malaysian Debt Venture Inc., and Bank Negara Malaysia.
The seminar covered a wide range of topics starting with an overview of the Islamic financial system, and Shariah fundamentals and the role of Shariah Advisors. The other topics were Islamic Insurance (Takaful), Islamic banking products and financing models, legal and regulatory frameworks, governance, accounting, risk management, and audit.
Among the seminar lecturers were top officers and experts from the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA), ZI Shariah Advisory Services Sdn Bhd., Takaful Ikhlas Sdn. Bhd., Shoraka Advisers Sdn. Bhd., EONCAP Islamic Bank and CIMB Islamic.
The seminar also included institutional visits to and briefings by Bank Negara Malaysia, Malaysia International Islamic Financial Center (MIFC0, Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad.
