ADFIAP, ADFIM hold 10th CEO Forum jointly with AADFI

CEO Forum XADFIAP and the Association of Development Finance Institutions of Malaysia (ADFIM) successfully held the 10th International CEO Forum X with the theme, “Development Financing, Alternative Models in a Changing World”, on November 4-6, 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event was also the second joint CEO conference with the African Association of Development Financing Institutions (AADFI). About 200 delegates from the three (3) associations and other invited guests attended the Forum.

The first half-day of the 2-1/2 day event featured speakers from the International Labor Organization (Ms. Patricia Richter), Phoenixict Pte Ltd (Ms. Hongsin Kwek) and the Centre for Entrepreneur Development & Research (Dr. Sheikh Ghazali Abod) with their presentations on “The Social Dimensions of Development Banking: ILO Tools for Social Finance”, “Crowdfunding”, and “Business Coaching for DFI Leaders”, respectively. The session chair was Ms. Matautia Rula Levi, CEO of Samoa Housing Corporation.

The main 1-1/2 day forum covered the following sessions and topics: Session I: “DFIs Committed Towards a Sustainable Financing Model” (speakers were Mr. Patrick Dlamini, CEO of the Development Bank of Southern Africa, Mr. Eishi Yasunaga, Executive Vice President of the Japan Economic Research Institute and Ms Anna Lvova of the Vnesheconombank). This session was chaired by Datuk Haji Abdul Rahim Hassan (CEO of Tekun Nasional Malaysia); Sessions II & III: “Alternative Financing Models, Country Experiences” (speakers were Mr. John Kofi Adomakoh of the African Export-Import Bank, Mr. Benel Lagua, Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer of the Development Bank of the Philippines, and Mr. Arjun Fernando, General Manager/Chief Executive/Director of the DFCC Bank).

These sessions were chaired by Datuk Vincent Pung, CEO of Sabah Credit Corporation and Dato SyedKamarulzaman SZK Shahabuddin, Managing Director of Perbadanan Naional Berhad; Session IV: “Risk Management in a Changing World” (speaker was Dr. Joseph Eby Ruin, Proprietor of Risk First Consultancy & Training Services) chaired by Mr. Shivjee Roy Yadav, CEO of NODC Development Bank Ltd (Nepal); Session V: “Corporate Governance: Supporting International Competitiveness & Corporate Governance” (speaker was Mr. Peter Lawler, Senior Vice President of the Business Development Bank of Canada) chaired by Mr. Nasir Issa Al-Ismaily, General Manager of Export Credit Guarantee Agency of Oman; and Session VI: “Regional IT Infrastructure Operations & Green Data Centre” (speaker was Mr. Alex Kuik of the Green ICT & EMF WG Asia Pacific Telecommunity APT). Other highlights of the Forum were the 80th ADFIAP Board of Directors Meeting and the AADFI Executive Committee Meeting as well as social events such as the Welcome Gala Dinner and the Kuala Lumpur City Tour.
