With its mission to advance sustainable development through advocacy and partnership, ADFIAP was invited to be one of the convenors of the “Associations for Progress Initiative” (working title) by agencies dealing with tourism development and promotion in the Philippines.
The Initiative’s aim is to further strengthen the governance and management of associations and other membership-based organizations in the country through educational and certification programs to be developed for and offered to association executives. This is in line with ADFIAP’s advocacy on good governance and expertise in capacity-building and credentialing programs. Most member-DFIs of ADFIAP relate and provide financial assistance to members of trade associations, notably small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which is another core advocacy of the Association. By building capacities of these associations and SMEs, ADFIAP envisions better quality of bankable project proposals. ADFIAP is aiming to replicate this initiative in its other member-institutions’ countries in the region.
Officers of the ADFIAP Secretariat, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) and the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) met on June 27, 2013 at the PICC premises for this purpose as well as to discuss plans of co-organizing later this year, the “Association Executives Summit”, a by-invitation-only event on sharing best practices in associations. The event is envisioned to draw participation from about 300 association executives to learn and network with each other that could eventually lead to a formal setting up of a professional society for association executives in the country.
