On invitation by the UNIDO Country Office in the Philippines, ADFIAP, represented by its Secretary General, Octavio B. Peralta, and Deputy Secretary General, Norman A. Tilos, participated and spoke at the “Business Forum on Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) with UNIDO Director General, Mr. Li Yong”, on June 25, 2018 at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila. Mr. Li Yong is on official mission to the country.
About 50 attendees from the private sector, business, associations, and development organizations also participated in the forum which was aimed at intensifying partnerships for ISID in the country in support of the UNIDO Philippine Country Programme for 2018-2023 which is in line with the country’s 5-year development plan. The country programme is anchored on three pillars – supporting inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-led industrialization, fostering green and resilient industrial communities, and cultivating meaningful partnerships for ISID.
For its part, ADFIAP proposed ideas for collaboration with UNIDO in the context of: (1) bridging the gap on access to finance by building capacities of DFIs and by leveraging on financial technologies on one hand (the supply side) and, the project proponents on the other (the demand side) by the setting up of project preparation and advisory units in development banks and other financial institutions (2) promoting programme lending, co-financing, blended finance, bond issuance, and other finance and banking interventions and instruments to boost the capital market by forming a finance and banking community or forum to allow constant dialogue, information and best practice-sharing, and business cooperation and partnerships as well as to establish a financial innovation hub that supports incubation of new green businesses and inventions, and (3) mainstreaming the greening of industries via the provision of financial and technical assistance in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, reinforcing earlier programs and gains in this front.
