ADFIAP Secretary General, Mr. Octavio B. Peralta, met with Dr. Stefanos Fotiou, Regional Coordinator for Resource Efficiency of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) at the Association’s headquarters in Makati City, Philippines to discuss areas of cooperation on green investment and finance as the Asia-Pacific region tracks the path of a green economy.
One of the four pillars of ADFIAP’s work and advocacy is on green finance since many of ADFIAP DFI-members have green finance portfolios for energy, infrastructure, resource efficiency as well as for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In 1998, member-DFIs of ADFIAP launched the “Greening of DFIs” project to promote and institute environmental due diligence in lending. Initially supported by the US-Asia Environmental Partnership, a USAID initiative, ADFIAP ran capacity building programs, including Board-approved environmental policies, setting up of environmental monitoring units and achieving ISO 14001 certification. In 2005, ADFIAP received a grant from the European Commission’s EU-Asia Pro Eco Programme for its environmental governance standards project https://www.egs-asia.com/
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) https://www.unep.org/ is an international organization that coordinates the U.N.’s environmental activities, assisting developing countries in implementing environmentally sound policies and practices. UNEP has six regional offices and various country offices.
