ADFIAP members, DFCC Bank of Sri Lanka and Tekun Nasional of Malaysia won top honours in the Global Sustainable Finance Awards (GSFA) 2013 during the awarding ceremony held in the city hall of Karlsruhe, Germany. The GSFA Awards nicknamed, “Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards” recognizes financial institutions and organizations with significant contribution in the field of sustainable finance. The Award is organized by the Global Sustainable Finance (GSF) Network.
The Award seeks to: (a) provide recognition to financial institutions that have successfully embedded economic, social and environmental sustainability into their business; (b) honour organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the field of sustainable finance; (c) stimulate the interests of financial institutions and other stakeholders in integrating sustainability in their core business strategy; and (d) promote the growth of green financial instruments and markets worldwide.
The Awards 2013 programme has three categories: (1) Best Innovation in Sustainable Financial Product & Services that recognizes outstanding success in financial products and services that balance the
3 Ps (People, Planet, Profits). The winner in this category will have applied innovative approaches in embedding sustainability in lending and/ or deposit products and other financial services that advance the transformation to low carbon and sustainable economy. (2) Outstanding Sustainable Project Financing that recognizes outstanding success in long-term financing of exemplary industrial/commercial or infrastructure projects that benefit local communities, protect the environment and ensure reliable returns to investors and lenders and (3) the Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement that recognizes outstanding success in incorporating economic, social and environmental aspects in the corporate strategy and business processes.
DFCC Bank’s project submission, “Energy Services Delivery Project/Renewable Energy for Rural Economic Development Project”, won in the outstanding sustainable project financing category while Tekun Nasionals’ entry, “Consolidated Economic Fund for Small Entrepreneurial Business Development” won the best innovation in sustainable financial product and services category. India’s Yes Bank won the outstanding business sustainability achievement award.
