Upon the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei, ADFIAP through Dep. Secretary General Roy Sobrecarey participated in the BIMP EAGA Business Conference held in Brunei Darussalam last August 6-7. BIMP EAGA stands for Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area.
With the theme “Moving BIMP-EAGA Beyond 2010”, the Business Conference focused on issues that included doing business in BIMP-EAGA as well as trade and financing facilitation. Deputy SG Sobrecarey made a presentation entitled “SME Financing: Issues, Barriers and Opportunities”. The event was attended by more than a hundred delegates from the business and government sectors in the BIMP EAGA member countries and development partners. The outcome of the business conference was used in the 14th BIMP EAGA Ministerial Meeting held on August 8 also in Brunei.
The other Resource Persons in the Business Conference were officials and experts from the Asian Development Bank, German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and Ease Asia, Mitsui Global Strategic Studies Institute, Brunei Freight Forwarders Association, and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam.
