Coming from the Berlin experts’ meeting on multilateral development finance (please see separate story), ADFIAP Secretary General, Mr. Octavio B. Peralta, took the opportunity to visit the KfW Development Bank headquarters in Frankfurt to pursue a continuing cooperation dialogue with the German financial institution that started in Colombo during the ADFIAP Annual Meetings in May, 2006 and then followed up during the ADFIAP Board Meeting in time for the CEO Forum III in Kuala Lumpur in November, 2006.

It may be recalled that ADFIAP’s relationship with KfW dates back in the 1970’s. In June 1979, at a UNIDO development bank conference in Zurich that ADFIAP attended together with its other regional association counterparts from Africa (AADFI) and Latin America (ALIDE), the three associations signed jointly with KfW an agreement to establish the World Federation of DFIs (WFDFI). Many bilateral exchange visits between KfW and ADFIAP were made during the succeeding years.

Mr. Peralta met with Mr. Haje Schuette, Chief of Division of KfW’s Financial and Private Sector Asia and his colleague, Ms. Jessica Moffett. Among the areas discussed were the possibility of joint training programs and the proposed ADFIAP regional fund for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). He also called on Mr. Uwe Ohls, KfW First Vice President, South and Central Asia.

KfW Entwicklungsbank (KfW development bank) finances investments and accompanying consulting services in developing countries. It carries out its work on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
