ADFIAP, represented by its Secretary General, Octavio B. Peralta, was one of the panellists of a webinar organized by the Amsterdam-based  International Congress and Convention Associations (ICCA) on April 17, 2020, entitled, “ICCA Asia-Pacific Conversation: Impact and Response Measures, Let’s Hear it from Associations.” The event, supported by the India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB), drew over a hundred attendees.

The webinar was moderated by Mr Girish Kwatra, Secretary of ICPB and ICCA India. Other panellists included Professor Solomon Rataemae, Secretary General of World Association for Psychological Rehabilitation, Mr. Noor Ahmad Hamid, ICCA Regional Director (Asia Pacific), and Dr. Shyam Bansal, Founder President of Save the Kidney Foundation.

The panellists agreed that no association was spared from the global health crisis with the cancellation of face-to-face learning programs, conferences, conventions and similar activities. But all of them concurred that associations need not wait for vaccine for COVID-19 and instead think of ways  to protect the future of these major activities through insurance, ease of access through virtual channels or blended events, health screening of participants, and conduct of smaller regional meetings.  Moreover, with sponsorships expected to dwindle because of slow business, associations have to find alternatives sources of  generating revenue.

Interestingly, ADFIAP is in a unique position when it comes to membership dues with the members being mostly national development banks which are owned by governments. Except for membership dues remittance delays, collection level is expected to be maintained. ADFIAP also shared that it has frequently communicated to its members through e-channels to ensure that the association remains the members’ voice of calm and inspiration.
