The event, held on March 12-14, 2014 at the Sheraton Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, was organized by the Asia LEDS Partnership (ALP) and hosted by the Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) with support from a number of ALP members such as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), SWITCH Asia Network Facility, the World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

Mr. Peralta’s presentation entitled, “Green Finance in Southeast Asia: Case Studies of ADFIAP Member-Development Finance Institutions (DFIs)” centered on the Association members’ lending facilities on energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate finance, carbon finance, green technology, and micro-energy financing. Ms. Conde spoke about new green investment opportunities with a special focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), highlighting ADFIAP’s access to finance experience with its EU grant-funded SMART Cebu project.

About 130 representatives of national and sub-national governments, international organizations, global climate change funds, civil society groups, academic institutions and businesses from Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), Europe, and North America attended the event. The workshop was aimed at improving understanding and capacity to access climate finance mechanisms and sharing and exchange on challenges facing policymakers and implementers in the Southeast Asia region.

The Asia LEDS Partnership (ALP) is a voluntary network comprised of organizations and individuals working to achieve transformative, sustainable economic growth across South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, and the Pacific. Currently, representatives from over a dozen Asian countries are actively engaged as well as numerous international partners and NGOs. The objectives of ALP are four-fold: (1) facilitate enhanced collaboration among LEDS practitioners and decision-makers in the region (2) identify and disseminate tools, models, approaches, and best practices in priority LEDS topics to enable application across the region (3) foster capacity building of practitioners to lead and implement LEDS and green growth in Asia and (4) strengthen support for LEDS across Asia by catalyzing leaders of change and raising awareness about the benefits and methods of promoting LEDS.
