ADFIAP Supports SME Banking Conference

Recognizing the importance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in country development and the crucial role that the banking and finance sector plays in supporting SMEs, the SME Development Bank of Thailand, with ADFIAP as one of its supporting organizations, successfully held the SME Bankers Conference 2006 for APEC Countries with the theme “Sustaining Development through Banking Knowledge-Sharing” on March 1-2, 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The conference focused on the key elements of banking operations and other support mechanisms for sustaining the development and growth of the SME sector using the available capacities and best practices of banks and financial institutions in the Asia-Pacific region.

The conference was attended by about 140 participants from financial organizations in the Asia-Pacific region, mostly senior-level bank officers and managers engaged in SME financing; government agencies providing financial and technical assistance to SMEs; and trade associations, chamber of industries and private organizations giving support services to SMEs. 25 of these delegates came from 16 ADFIAP member-banks and affiliates.
