ADFIAP and the SWITCH-Asia Network Facility conducted a workshop on “How to Enable Access to Finance for SMEs to take up Sustainable Production and Consumption Practices” on April 24, 2012 at the Titanic Port Hotel Barkikoy in Istanbul in conjunction with the 35th ADFIAP Annual Meetings in the Turkish city.

The event, attended by more than 40 participants from ADFIAP members, invited guests and local delegates, was aimed at drawing up a systematic way and process on how to enable sustainable SME financing. The first session of the workshop set the stage with collection of current cases on financing solutions for greening SMEs and socially-responsible businesses, including both debt and equity financing. The second session focused on completing the picture of enablers and levers for scaling-up and finding solutions to address them, including discussions by business intermediaries and platforms working to address the supply and demand gap (e.g. match-making forums, advocacy, capacity-building). The third session provided a venue for dialogue among the participants in an interactive format on what steps and partnerships they could build on to successfully enable sustainable SME financing.

Speakers and resource persons included Mr. Mr. Francisco F. Del Rosario, President and CEO of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Ms. Komathi Lalitha Veeriah of Credit Guarantee Corporation of Malaysia (CGC); Mr. Coenraad de Vries, Managing Partner, Start Green Venture Capital, Ms. Ferda Ulutas of Technology Development Foundation of Turkey, Ms. Cora Conde, Head of ADFIAP Consulting Group, Dato’ Leong Kin Mun of the Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MiGHT), Ms. Barbara Schnell, Division Chief, Financial and Private Sector Asia of KfW Bankengruppe and Mr. Burak Kartal of the Turkey Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (TurSEFF).
