ADFIAP visits China Exim Bank, explores bilateral cooperation

ADFIAP Secretary General, Mr. Octavio B. Peralta, met on June 20, 2011 with China Exim Bank Vice President Mr. Zhu Xinqiang at the Bank’s headquarters in Beijing, China. The meeting was requested by the ADFIAP Secretariat as Mr. Peralta was in the Chinese capital for a speaking engagement with an economic conference there.

During the meeting, which was also attended by officers from the Bank’s international and corporate business departments, Messrs. Zhu and Peralta updated each other on each institutions’ current activity thrusts as well as explored possible bilateral areas of cooperation, both on the knowledge and business exchange fronts.

On knowledge exchange, Mr. Zhu expressed openness in participating in ADFIAP’s learning and best practice programs and conferences to expand the Bank’s platform in this area. On the business cooperation side, the two explored the idea of setting up an ADFIAP “green fund” that will use the existing networks and experiences of both institutions to provide financial assistance to projects such as energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmental technologies. A concept note is now being prepared in this regard.

Founded in 1994 as a government policy bank, the Export-Import Bank of China https://english.eximbank.gov.cn/ has eighteen domestic business branches and three overseas representative offices, namely, in Southern and Eastern Africa, Paris and St. Petersburg. At present, the Bank has established correspondent relationship with more than 500 banks worldwide.
