IDF, AC conduct SME Banker certificate course

SMEBankergrp_webADFIAP’s Institute of Development Finance (IDF) and its Consulting Group (AC) conducted the “SME Banker Program” on October 13-17, 2014 in Manila, Philippines, attended by seven (7) bank officers from the ADFIAP members in Malaysia and the Philippines.

The program, an ADFIAP certificate course, was designed to assist banks in setting up/enhancing their SME lending units/portfolios as well as provide their SME lending officers with the necessary knowledge and skills in risk-based lending aimed at minimizing the incidence of problem credits and loss through early problem recognition and remedial management. In addition, the program also focused on building capacities of banks in facing the challenges and risks in SME lending, and consequently, nurture a vibrant and sustainable loan portfolio towards risk minimization and profit maximization.

The topics that were discussed in the 5-day program included, among others, the following: “SME Lending Business Management System”; “Understanding the SME Market”; “The SME Banking Opportunity”; Expanding the SME Market through Value Chain Approach”; “A Holistic Approach to SME Lending”; “Supervision and Monitoring”; and “Early Warning Recognition/Remedial Management”.

The program also afforded the participants to visit a state-of-the-art factory rated as one of the most modern large-scale bread-making facility in the country that is certified as ISO 9001:2008 in compliance with Quality Management System and certification for product excellence. The program was capped with the finalization and presentation of the participant’s back-home action plans which will be presented to their respective institutions.
