IDF conducts loan officership program for Landbank

LOP_LBP_grp_webUpon the request of the Landbank of the Philippines (Landbank), ADFIAP’s Institute of Development Finance (IDF), in collaboration with the ADFIAP Consulting (AC) Group, conducted a special run of the Certificate Course on Loan Officership for the lending officers of the Manila-based member-development finance institution on September 23-27, 2014. The program was attended by 28 participants from the Bank’s head office and provincial branches.

This program was aimed at levelling up the skills of bank lending officers to make well informed credit decisions through experiential learning, hands-on exercises and case studies. It also provided the participants with necessary soft skills to enable them to go beyond being merely a lender to their clients and act the role of a concerned and pro-active business partner, with the end of enhancing their bank’s portfolio quality and consequently, its sustainability as a business concern.

The topics that were covered during the 5-day event included: the roles, goals, functions, and ideal qualities if a loan officer; soft skills of a loan officers; credit initiation: harmonizing strategic lending directions and credit policies with risk-based lending; credit appraisal and approval; risk-based lending framework; credit scoring; risk management documentation; credit administration: account supervision in risk-based lending approach; performance evaluation: pro-active management action; and greening the DFIs. The program was capped with the finalization and presentation of the “back-home action plan” prepared by each of the participants.

The main resource persons of the program included the members of the ADFIAP Consulting (AC) team led by Ms. Cora Conde, Group Head; Atty Alberto Reyno, Managing Partner; Ms. Arlene Orencia, Head of Project and Programs; Ms. Cecilia Ibarra, Head of Training & Advocacy; Ms. Cristy Aquino, Head Business Development; Ms. Carmelita Chavez, Consultant; and Mr. Enrique Florencio, ADFIAP’s Head of Knowledge Management Unit & Sustainability Officer.
