IDF runs 7th DevMan, certifies 5 members’ officers

7thDEVMAN_webADFIAP ‘s Asia-Pacific Development Finance (IDF) conducted the 7th Development Bank Management (DevMan) Program from October 7-18, 2013 at the AIM Training Centre, in Manila, Philippines. Five (5) senior officers from ADFIAP member-development banks in Vanuatu, Federated States of Micronesia, and the Philippines have successfully completed the program and earned the “Certified Development Finance Professional (CDFP) credential.

DevMan is Level 2 of the ADFIAP Career Credentialing Program (ACCP), a process of accrediting and recognizing the professional competence of development bankers. This two-week program is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of DFI officers in development bank management. Module 1 of the program covered “Bank Operation Management and Financial Management” which included topics on financial management system, treasury and risk management, credit analysis for long-term investment projects, loan management, and performance management. Module 2 included “General Management of People” which covered Asian culture in management, analytical tools for problem solving, decision-making and risk management, improving communications and critical aspects of human resources management and training. It also included “Strategic Investment Management” which covered investment strategies, essentials of marketing, branding, marketing channels, characteristics of sustainable enterprise, sustainability reporting, product planning and development, role of technology in investment, and sustainable approach to strategic investment planning.

Apart from the in-depth classroom discussions, the participants made an institutional visit to the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) where they briefed on the strategic management of a universal bank and how it fulfills its development mandate and achieve revenue targets.

The main resource person was Dr. Alberto Peña, Professor and Associate Director of the Office of International Studies and Programs at the Illinois State University in the U.S.A. He was supported by Mr. Orlando P. Pena, former ADFIAP Secretary General and currently President of ABC Consultants, Mr. Enrique Florencio, ADFIAP Head of Knowledge Management Unit & Sustainability Officer, and ADFIAP Consulting’s (AC) Ms. Cora Conde, Group Head, Atty. Bert Reyno, Managing Principal, Ms. Cecille Ibarra, Head, Advocacy and Training, Ms. Cristy Aquino, Head Business Development and Ms. Emy Chavez.
