IDF conducts administrative management course POSDCORB

ADFIAP’s Institute of Development Finance (IDF) conducted the “International-Workshop on Executive Management Responsibility: POSDCORB” on February 13-17, 2017 at the St. Giles Hotel in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines, attended by participants from Bhutan and Nepal.

POSDCORB is an acronym widely-used in the field of management and public administration that reflects the classic view of administrative management. It stands for planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting and budgeting. The objective of this course is to enhance the managerial skills of executives, with a deeper understanding of the important management processes under the POSDCORB framework.

Among the topics that were discussed and dissected during the 5-day program included: concept and process of planning; stages of planning (strategic plan, operational plan, action plan); levels of planning; process and concept of organizing; executive’s responsibilities in organizing; concepts and procedures in staffing; concepts of directing portion of the POSDCORB; what is the coordination portion of the POSDCORB; concepts, procedures, and formats of reporting; structures and behavior of organizations; job-based staffing; process of directing; pointing the right direction; nature and processes of delegation; internal and external coordination; flow of communications: directives and reports; financial management system of organizations; area of discretion: concept of competent authority; span of control; leadership and decision-making; and monitoring and controlling.

The resource person was Dr. Alberto Pena, Director of Management Development International and Associate Director of the International Studies and Programs at the Illinois State University (ISU), USA.
