China Development Bank (CDB) launched the “Charity Project-Sight Restoring Action” recently in Gulin County, Sichuan Province. This project is carried out jointly by CDB and China Foundation for Disabled Persons (CFDP) to provide free sight-restoring operations for poor cataract patients in order to prevent them from becoming blind due to poverty. Over the years, CDB has committed to helping underprivileged groups in the society aside from providing credit and other financial services to the general public as part of its efforts to fulfill its social responsibilities. In its poverty-alleviation efforts, CDB has insisted on integrating social resources through multiple channels and measures in a bid to help poverty-stricken areas out of poverty as soon as possible. Based on the spirit of the circular issued by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development on A New Round of Poverty Alleviation Work of Central and State-Level Agencies and Other Related Units in Designated Areas, CDB has made six poverty-stricken counties including Sichuan’s Gulin County its designated areas to perform its poverty alleviation obligations. So far, CDB has donated RMB 2.8 million to Gulin County to help it develop agricultural and animal husbandry projects such as tea growing and breeding of white goat, whose head is just like horse’s and help kids of disabled and poor parents to go to school. It has also organized over 50 headmasters or principals of the primary and middle schools of the country to receive training in Beijing Normal University.
