Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ) announced that it has joined the Green Bond Principles (GBP) as issuer member. GBP is composed of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and 129 other members, including investors, issuers, and underwriters as of January 19, 2017. They are responsible for updating annually the Green Bond Principles, which are voluntary process guidelines that recommend transparency and disclosure and promote integrity in the development of the green bond market by clarifying the approach for issuance of a green bond. They also create a platform to share the latest information about green bonds and send relevant information to the society. DBJ is the first issuer in Japan to participate in GBP. Considering the growing demand for SRI, DBJ, the sole continuing SRI bond issuer in Japan, has issued green bonds in 2014 and sustainability bonds in 2015 and 2016. DBJ has a policy to continue issuing SRI bonds.
