JCorp: Promoting environmental and wildlife conservation

Promoting environmental and wildlife conservation is well aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In accordance to this, the Johor Corporation (JCorp), through the Kulim (Malaysia) Berhad (Kulim), a company within the Johor Corporation, have created the “Kulim Wildlife Defenders” (KWD) to promote environmental and wildlife conservation in the State of Johor.

Under the KWD, a variety of educational activities in promoting awareness on the importance of wildlife conservation and the environment were held for employees and around twelve (12) schools in the Kulim’s area of responsibility. The program also has led to the establishment of Kulim Wildlife Defenders Junior (KWDJ) which focuses on the environmental awareness for school children through game activities conducted by trained volunteers. These educational programs has received a very encouraging response from stakeholders and became part of Kulim’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program that received grant from SGP-GEF UNDP in year 2010. Activity awareness campaign was also expended to schools in Johor through cooperation with the AIESEC-UTM. With the positive response from stakeholders, KWD will continue to take steps in providing continuous awareness on the importance of environmental and wildlife conservation to schools and communities in the state of Johor in collaboration with different public and private institutions as well as NGOs.

JCorp’s “Kulim Wildlife Defenders (KWD)” received a Merit Award in the 2018 ADFIAP Outstanding Development Project Awards under the corporate social responsibility category.
