ADFIAP’s Institute of Development Finance (IDF) will be holding a study tour program on micro and small and medium enterprise (MSME) financing on January 25 to 29, 2010 in Manila, Philippines and is now accepting nominations for participation. As the program connotes, the main learning methodology will be more of institutional and project visits and experience-sharing than classroom sessions.

The 5-day program, the 9th run since it started in 2006, aims to: (a) expose the participants to the experiences and best practices on micro and SME finance through institutional visits to various key microfinance and SME  banks in the Philippines, from policy-making bodies to conduits of wholesale and retail microfinance and SME funds; (b) deepen the participants’ knowledge and understanding of microfinance and SME operations through field visits to microfinance and SME centers; and (c) provide a platform for exchanging views and ideas among participants to have a better appreciation of the significant roles that financial institutions play in the promotion of microfinance and SME finance in their respective countries.

Among the institutions that will be visited by the participants include the Planters Development Bank, Development Bank of the Philippines, People’s Credit and Finance Corporation, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines), National Credit Council, CARD-MRI Center, Ahon sa Hirap Foundation, and the Asian Development Bank.

This study tour program has been previously held in Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines. For participation and more details about this program, please email Ms. Sandra C. Honrado at
