ADFIAP forum revisits development banking basics

ADFIAP, in cooperation with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), held a half-day, by-invitation-only executive briefing on the fundamentals of development banking on February 13, 2012 at the DBP Headquarters in Makati City, Philippines. Fifteen (15) senior officers from the DBP, Land Bank of the Philippines, Philippine Export-Import Credit Agency and Al Amanah Islamic Investment Bank attended the event.

The aim of the forum was to impart to the participants the basic principles and practices of development banking in the context of the economic development of the country and to provide them with insights on the prevailing situation in other countries. Among the key issues discussed were the role and functions of DFIs, their regulatory environment, and their performance measurement framework.

Dr. Alberto Peña, Director of the Management Development International (MDI) and Associate Director of the Office of International Studies and Programs at the Illinois State University (ISU), was the main resource person for the event. Mr. Roy Sobrecarey, DBP Vice President & Chief of Staff, Officer of the Chairman, gave the opening remarks. Also present during the event were ADFIAP Secretary General, Mr. Octavio B. Peralta, who gave the closing remarks, and the ADFIAP Consulting Group, represented by Ms. Cora Conde, Group Head and Attorney Alberto Reyno, Managing Partner.
