SCC’s Pung named ADFIAP CEO-of-the-Year

VPungFor his outstanding performance in transforming the Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) into a pre-eminent development finance institution, Chief Executive Officer, Vincent Pung Yee Kiong, was chosen as this year’s recipient of the prestigious “Outstanding CEO Award.” Mr. Pung was honored during the Gala and Awards Night on April 20, 2011 in conjunction with the 34th ADFIAP Annual Meetings held in Kyrenia, North Cyprus.

From an asset size of RM 362 million in 1997 and totally relying on the State for funding, SCC’s asset size today is RM 1.24 billion. SCC has also attracted private sector investment thereby boosting its capacity to assist more projects as well as pay dividends to the State. SCC’s remarkable transformation spanned across the entire organization, including human resources, processes and technology and using as motivational themes, the institution’s journey for pride, quality, credibility, precision and sustainability.

Under his leadership, Datuk Pung introduced the SCC New Remuneration Scheme for the well-being of his staff as well as the sustainability of SCC itself. This new scheme is a total break-off of the rigid government scheme and one that promotes meritocracy, flexibility in resources deployment, appropriate appreciation and recognition of the organization’s personnel. With his business acumen and vast knowledge of the financial industry, Datuk Vincent Pung led SCC to be the first and only State Government Agency that provides Syariah-compliant financial products and services.

With a heart for women, children and the physically-challenged, Datuk Pung has initiated various social responsibility programs that produced support shelters for abused women and single mothers, orphanages, educational centers, medical facilities and many more.

The CEO Award is being given to a practicing chief executive officer, whose singular talent, leadership, vision and achievement, in the judgment of the Awards Board, stands out among the other nominees of the award. Without focusing on the size of the institution, the judges assesses the stature of the individual, the positive effects that the person leadership has had on his of her institution, and the impact this leader’s decision have had in the development banking profession, in particular, and on the development of the country, in general.
